20 December 2017 | Tanzania, Mtwara
On Wednesday the 20th in the early morning we reported at the bus station at 6:30 AM, we did meet our group there as Maria and Ezborn were also traveling to Dar with the Tashariff bus. The bus is much bigger than the daladala busses. It is actually a big touring car that would bring us in 9 hours to Dar es Salaam.
It was more comfortable, but also a bit scarier to feel the bus going very fast over the small (but good tarred) road.
We enjoyed talking together and seeing the landscape go by. In the middle of our trip (after 4,5 hours) there is a short stop where all the busses meet and where we could buy some food and drinks (and where we could use the toilet) after only 15minutes we had to enter the bus for another 4,5 hours.
At a bus station at the south of Dar we did depart the big bus and moved to a daladala bus to get more at the centre of town (the end destination of the Tashariff bus is a big bus station at the west of the town)
Once arrived in the city center, we first went to the harbour to collect and buy our boat tickets to Zanzibar. At the ferry ticket office, there is a big line for all sort of tickets, we joined the line for locals as we have a residential permit. After handing over both our residents permits and our passports, we managed to get tickets for going to and returning from Zanzibar. We confirmed we have all the tickets we need and we spitted up, Maria went to a central hotel, Ezborn to a friend and Erini an me had booked a room in Kays lodge, which is a bit out of town in the North.
We took a taxi and were happily received again by the guard and receptionist of the hotel. In the evening we walked a bit around and decided to go to Slipway market, a touristic place nearby which some western restaurants and a lot of souvenir shops. We did not visit the place yet in our first week, so we were interested how it would look like. We bought some small souvenirs, some whiskey (Which we carried with us for two months) and some bags. We had some discussions and resolved them by walking along the sea. After our walk we had a nice dinner at the seaside. We took a bajaji (Local term for TukTuk) back to Kays Lodge and slept very well.
